6th Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) Ministerial – U.S. Department of Energy, Greek Ministry of Environment/Energy & Atlantic Council Global Energy Center

On November 2025 Athens hosted the sixth meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), organised by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Greek Ministry of Environment & Energy e delle the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center. The event brought together government ministers, senior U.S. officials and industry leaders to discuss energy security, infrastructure, investment and the green transition in the trans-Atlantic context.

Highlights of the Event

Energy Security & Diversification of Supply
The opening keynote delivered by the U.S. Secretary of Energy and introduced by the Greek Minister for Environment & Energy framed energy security as not only a technical or commercial issue but a geopolitical one. Greece’s Prime Minister underlined the country’s evolving role as a gateway for U.S. LNG into Europe. The “Country Spotlight: Greece” panel featured the Greek Minister for Environment & Energy, the Minister of Digital Governance, the Minister of Economy & Finance and the Minister of Maritime & Island Policy discussing streamlined permitting, LNG terminals and the strategic value of Greece’s energy infrastructure.

Infrastructure and the “Vertical Corridor” & LNG Gateways
In a major session on “Corridors of Power: How natural gas is redrawing Europe’s energy map”, representatives from leading energy companies and system-operators discussed the concept of the north-south energy axis across Southeast Europe. Another session on “LNG as a catalyst for competitiveness” brought together European ministers and a Greek deputy minister to review how new LNG terminals are transforming regional energy dynamics. The infrastructure discussion also addressed interconnectors, storage, grid modernisation and the regulatory settings needed for cross-border flows.

Technology, Innovation & Nuclear Cooperation
Panels on “From power-plants to processors: Energy as the engine of AI” and “Resilient by design: Powering a stronger energy future” examined how rising demand from data centres and AI workloads is reshaping grid and supply needs, and how nuclear technology and fuel diversification feature in the energy transition. These sessions underscored that energy law now embraces digital infrastructure, grid resilience, cyber-security and new fuels.

Mobilising Investment for the Transition
A core theme was unlocking capital for energy infrastructure and transition projects. A panel on “Building the backbone: Unlocking capital for global energy infrastructure” featured senior leaders from development finance institutions and energy-investment organisations discussing blended finance, de-risking models, regulatory frameworks and public-private partnerships.

Strategic Significance for Greece and the Region

The Ministerial reinforced Greece’s status as a regional energy hub, with deepened U.S. participation signalling a stronger trans-Atlantic commitment. The focus on LNG, interconnectors and diversification aligned with Greece’s strategic ambition to become an entry-point for American LNG and a transit hub for Southeast Europe. For the broader region, the convergence of technology, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and investment emphasised that energy transition is not just about renewables, but about integrated systems and legal/regulatory complexity.
